General Posting Setup does not exist in Business Central: what it means and how to fix it
The message you see
The General Posting Setup does not exist. Identification fields and values: Gen. Bus. Posting Group=’EXPORT’,Gen. Prod. Posting Group=’SERVICES’
What causes it
Each line pairs a business posting group (customer or vendor) with a product posting group (item or G/L account). This pair has no row:
- A new product posting group has never been combined with this customer’s or vendor’s business group.
- A customer or vendor was moved to a business group that has rows for only some product groups.
- A journal line has a product group but a blank business group.
How to fix it in Business Central
- Read the two codes in the message.
- Search for General Posting Setup and look for that pair.
- If it’s missing, add a row and fill in the accounts, such as Sales Account and COGS Account, or copy them from a similar row.
- If a code is wrong, correct it on the customer, vendor, item or line instead. Post again.
The faster way
With Bee Solved, the AI Assistant for Business Central, you ask which setup is missing.
Which posting setup is missing for sales order 1052?
| EXPORT / SERVICES (line 3) | Missing |
| EXPORT / RETAIL (lines 1, 2) | Set up |
It reads the posting groups on the order’s lines, checks each pair against General Posting Setup with your permissions, and links to the page where links are on. Adding setup rows stays with your accountant.
Bee Solved works in Claude, ChatGPT or Microsoft 365 Copilot. It signs in as the person asking, uses their Business Central permissions, and links every answer back to the records behind it.
Questions
Will it create the missing setup row?
No. Which accounts a new pair posts to is an accounting decision, so a person adds the row in Business Central.
Can it check before we post?
Yes. Ask which posting setups an order or journal needs, and it lists any pair that has no row.
